Lania and Leiah Hite combined for nine goals, and the Trigg County girls’ soccer team scored early and often on Monday on the way to an 11-3 season-opening victory over hosts Mayfield.

The Lady Wildcats took the lead inside the first five minutes and doubled the advantage with Lania’s goal off an assist from Hallie Joiner.

Addison Humphries added the third off a pass from Leiah, and Lania collected a ball from Camryn Boone and completed a first-half hat trick with 17:50 left.

Mayfield got on the board with 8:50 left in the half on a goal from Nia Haley to cut the margin to three at the break.

Five goals in nine minutes to start the half put the game away.  Leiah and Lania scored twice, with Lania’s first coming off an assist from Humphries.

Haley scored twice in less than four minutes for the Lady Cardinals, but Humphries added her second goal, and Lania scored her fifth off a pass from Leiah.

Leiah finished with four goals and a pair of assists, and Lania found the back of the net five times.

The Lady Wildcats welcome Caldwell County to Cadiz on Thursday looking to avenge a 3-1 defeat in last season’s opener.
