Caldwell County’s first win of the season was an important one.
The Tigers scored three unanswered goals to overcome an early 1-0 deficit and post a 3-1 victory over Fort Campbell Monday night in Princeton.
The 2nd Region All A Classic quarterfinal triumph moves Caldwell into the semifinals on Tuesday. The Tigers will next play at Heritage Christian Academy in Hopkinsville, facing the host school at 5:30 in the All A tournament.
Fort Campbell (1-2) drew first blood on Monday at Butler Stadium when Dason Tate hammered home a corner kick from Ryan Brewer right in front of the net.
That came in the 15th minute and the Falcons flew with that lead for over 20 minutes.
But Caldwell (1-2) stole the momentum just before halftime.
The Tigers had missed on some scoring opportunities early in the game, but found the net on a long shot by Sutton Ritchey in the 37th minute.
Ritchey’s long blast from straight away got just over the outstretched arms of Fort Campbell keeper Eric Marr and just under the crossbar to tie the contest.
Ritchey struck again in the 53rd minute to give Caldwell the lead. Ritchey got his second goal when a long free kick ricocheted off the keeper. The ball came out to Ritchey, who buried a shot into the left side of the net to put the Tigers in front.
Caldwell added an insurance goal in the 68th minute. Timothy Nichols hit Chase Lantrip with a pass on the right side, and Lantrip beat the keeper one-on-one to make it 3-1.
Caldwell held a 17-8 advantage in shots.
Corbin Nichols had four saves in the Tiger net while Marr had nine stops for the Falcons.
Wins over Fort Campbell have been rare for Caldwell through the years. The Falcons still lead the all-time series 30-7-4. However, the Tigers have won the last three meetings.
