After a difficult offseason that included multiple coaching changes and a shortage of players, the Todd County Central girls’ soccer team got things started with a 3-1 loss to Barren County in their opener.

The Lady Rebels capped an 11-8-2 season with a 13th-District title and captured an All-A 4th Region championship, but much of the firepower from that squad is gone.  Madison Henderson led the team with 27 goals, while Hannah Oliver notched 20 assists to go with seven goals.  Ciara Collins also departed after scoring ten times and contributing nine assists.

Senior Melanie Chamberlaine leads the offensive returnees after collecting seven goals and providing five assists last season.  Junior Ava Scott will be asked to shoulder some of the scoring load after finding the back of the net once and adding three assists in 12 games a year ago.  Sophomore Jaidyn Holland is another player the Lady Rebels will count on in the attacking third of the field.

Goalkeeper Darby Delph anchors the defense after posting four shutouts as a junior, including two in the district tournament.  She made nearly seven saves a game while allowing three goals per outing.

Providing cover for Delph, sophomore Ashley Espinoza and junior Elizabeth Langley highlight the defense.  The Lady Rebels are also well-stocked with 11 underclassmen, including seven freshmen ready to make their mark for the varsity team.

Todd Central will open its district slate on Tuesday with a trip to Franklin-Simpson.

Senior Melanie Chamberlaine talks about the upcoming season.
