Riley Dunlap had a hat trick as Hopkins County Central picked up its first win of the season at Lyon County on Thursday.

Dunlap found the net twice in the first half and once in the second half as the Storm held off the Lyons 3-2 at Lee S. Jones Park in Eddyville.

Hopkins Central (1-3) never trailed after Dunlap took a cross from Jude Mitchell and scored in the 9th minute.

Dunlap gathered in a loose ball in the box in the 25th minute and punched it home as the Storm went to halftime with a 2-0 edge.

Colt Bannister scored the first of his two goals for Lyon (0-3) in the 42nd minute to cut that margin in half.

However, Dunlap scored again the 50th minute. Brennan Scott sent a pass across the front of the goal from the side. The ball went all the way to the other side of the net, where Dunlap finished it to make it 3-1.

Bannister scored in the 67th minute to keep the Lyons in the game. Deven Guess picked up an assist as Bannister’s blast found its way through the Storm goalkeeper.

The Lyons generated more opportunities late, but could never net the tying goal.

Jackson Crawford made 10 saves in the Lyon net.

The Lyons will play at home again on Tuesday against Muhlenberg County.
