Tayvion Robinson had already played in 36 games at Virginia Tech before he transferred to Kentucky last season where he expected to be the team’s go-to receiver.
He played in 11 games with eight starts in 2022 and had 40 catches for 497 yards and three touchdowns. He had his first two collegiate 100-yard games but was not the big play threat quite like he was at Virginia Tech when he had 113 catches for 1,555 yards.
“He just disappeared at times last year,” said former UK quarterback Freddie Maggard. “I am concerned about UK’s wide receiver depth this year. I think Tayvion is an NFL prospect but he’s got to do it on the field this year or else you might see Kentucky using three or four tight ends at the same time.”
Robinson came back for his fifth year to play for offensive coordinator Liam Coen, the coach he thought he would be playing for in 2022 before Coen left for the NFL before returning to UK in January.
Robinson has shown improvement that Coen wanted with his route running and maturity and the offensive coordinator continues to emphasize how much Robinson needs to be a consistent playmaker.
“Much-improved camp than I’d say from spring football. We need Tayvion Robinson to step up and be a playmaker for us,” Coen said. “We need him to step up and be consistent, tough, physical, and be a leader,” Coen said.
“I think he can do that. I know he can catch the football in traffic. I know he can make people miss when he gets the ball. We need to get him involved in our own way but also need him playing for his teammates, playing with his teammates, and having a lot of fun doing it.”
