Kentucky football struggled to take care of business when they played host to the Eastern Kentucky Colonels, but nonetheless found a 28-17 victory on Saturday afternoon.
Despite being favored by a whopping 35 points, it was Kentucky who found themselves trailing 7-0 less than five minutes into the first quarter. The Wildcats would even the score at 7-7 by halftime, but Kentucky once again failed to get off to a hot start offensively.
While quarterback Devin Leary and his receivers found their stride in the second half, it’s hard to knock fans for wanting to see more from their team. After all, is it really too much to ask for Kentucky to “blow out” a team like EKU? And that’s no offense to the Colonels, but Kentucky has next-level athletes with NFL-like coaches on their staff. There’s a reason (or two) why they were favored by 35 points.
Kentucky will play their third consecutive home game next weekend against Akron – a game where they’ll look to put together a complete game on both sides of the ball.
