Looking to snap a ten-game losing streak against McLean County in Calhoun on Friday, the Todd County Central Rebels were hit with a 28-point first-quarter tidal wave and never recovered in a 46-28 loss to the Cougars.
A week after pounding Stewart County, TN, 43-0, the Rebels trailed inside the first three minutes when Ayden Rice got McLean County on the board with a touchdown run.
Houston Whitaker doubled the Cougar advantage with a TD plunge, and Elijah Baldwin made it 18-0 with another scoring run. Looking for the knockout blow, McLean went onside and recovered the kick, leading to a 44-yard scoring strike from Brodie Cline to Aden Bolden.
Miles Reding answered for the Rebels with a TD run early in the second quarter, but Cline ran one in on his own, and Baldwin added his second touchdown with :31 left for a 40-7 halftime score.
After a scoreless third quarter, the teams traded touchdown runs just ten seconds apart. Quinton Grace found the endzone from 15 yards out for the Rebels, and Baldwin hit the house for the third time with a 50-yard scoring scamper.
A pair of Rebel touchdowns over the final seven minutes made the score more respectable. Grace went in from 16 yards, and Ricky Woodard added a 12-yard TD run to cap the scoring.
Todd Central slipped to 2-3 with a short trip to Russellville coming up next week. The Panthers come in at 0-5 but haven’t lost to the Rebels in over 25 years.
