Henderson County did most of its damage late in each half on Thursday to knock off hosts University Heights Academy 5-1 at Givens Field.
The Blazers’ five-game winning run came to an end to slip to 9-5-1. The Colonels picked up their ninth win to remain undefeated against 2nd-Region competition.
Lincoln Hauret nearly put the Blazers in front inside the first three minutes, but Carsen Emmicks’ diving save kept out his header off a corner kick.
Both teams had chances over the remainder of the half before Henderson took the lead with just over four minutes left when Alex Bowley tapped in off Tage Vekseth-Hahn’s corner kick.
Jack Gentry took advantage of a miscommunication in the Blazer defense to double the advantage ten minutes into the second half, and Cole Branson made it 3-0 with a goal just two and a half minutes later.
With under two minutes left, Matthew Hauret got UHA on the board with a shot from the right of the box to the far side netting off a pass from Clayton Lester. But the Blazers didn’t have long to enjoy it, with Gentry scoring his second of the night and Vekseth-Hahn finding the back of the net from close range after a free kick.
Que Quarles made six saves in goal for the Blazers, including a diving fingertip stop off a header with the game still scoreless.
UHA will look to bounce back on Saturday with matches against John Hardin and Collins at the Bruins Classic in Elizabethtown.
Henderson will host North Hardin on Saturday before wrapping up the regular season with a trip to Owensboro on Thursday.
