Now that the federal government shutdown has been averted for the time being, we can focus in on the boys’ 8th District soccer tournament getting underway Monday evening. The tournament is being played at the Stadium of Champions.

While UHA enters the week as the favorite, this year’s tournament could be a very competitive event. The Blazers swept their way through district competition, but two of their wins came by scores of 2-0 and 2-1.

University Heights is looking for its third straight district championship.

Monday night will find the 4th-seeded Fort Campbell Falcons taking on the 5th-seeded Heritage Christian Academy Warriors, who are playing in their first-ever 8th District tournament. The Falcons won both regular season matchups with the Warriors, but last Thursday’s contest was a tough 5-4 win for Fort Campbell. Monday night’s contest is set for 5:30pm start.

The winner of the Fort Campbell-Heritage Christian contest will take on top-seeded University Heights Tuesday evening at 5:30. The Blazers easily handled HCA in their only meeting, winning 10-0. UHA also shutout Fort Campbell 5-0 back on September 16.

The second boys semifinal Tuesday evening at 7:30 will have second-seeded Hopkinsville taking on third seeded Christian County. The Tigers and the Colonels locked up in a big battle September 19 with Hopkinsville taking a 1-0 win.

The boys’ championship match is set for Thursday evening at 7:30.
