Cate Blane had to battle fast greens and a case of strep throat to finish tied for 37th at the Leachman Buick GMC Cadillac State Golf Championships at the Bowling Green Country Club.
The Hopkinsville High junior finished in a tie for 37th place in her fourth state tournament appearance.
Blane shot an 8-over-par 80 and was tied for 18th place after the first day that saw her shoot even-par over the final 12 holes. She capped her round with a 34-foot birdie putt on her final hole of the day. Her round of 80 equaled her state tourney low round shot in last year’s first round.
In Wednesday’s second round, there were no birdies to be had for Blane as she carded an 88 to finish the two days at 24-over par.
It was Blane’s second top-50 finish at the state tournament in her fourth appearance. Last year, the KHSAA added a state first round that followed the region tournament. Those who advanced to the championship round played two rounds with no cut.
