It was a season that began with the Todd County Central Lady Rebels getting a coach at the very last minute and then seeing another coaching change during the season. It ended, after a successful regular season, despite the early season turmoil, with the Lady Rebels making their first ever appearance in the 4th Region semifinals.
Bowling Green’s firepower was a bit too much for Todd County Central to overcome Wednesday night as the Lady Rebels fell to the Lady Purples 7-0. In addition to their offense, the Lady Purples allowed Todd County Central very little in the way of offensive opportunities, rarely allowing the ball to cross the midfield line as Bowling Green controlled the flow of the match from the very beginning.
Bowling Green came out from the start putting the ball on frame. The Lady Purples got off 10 shots in the first 15 minutes of the match and they kept Todd Central goalie Darby Delph under fire all night long.
The Lady Purples got on the board when Zippi Willgruber took a pass off the bounce in the box and whipped it into the net, putting Bowling Green up 1-0 at the 9:30 mark of the match. Willgruber scored again at the 17:00 mark when she headed a ball that had deflected off Darby Delph’s hands to put Bowling Green up 2-0.
Macy Lindsey rebounded a header that hit off the facing of the goal after a corner kick play-in at 23:30, running the lead to 3-0. Zippi Willgruber scored again at the 29:00, giving Bowling Green a 4-0 lead that they would take into the half.
The game continued to play out much the same over the final forty minutes. Bowling Green found the net again at the 48:00 to make it 5-0. The Lady Rebels hung over the next 26 minutes, not allowing another score. The Lady Purples would tack on two more goals over the final six minutes to close out the win.
The Lady Rebels finish the season at 10-8-1. It was the second straight season that Todd County Central has finished with a winning record and at least 10 wins.
The Lady Rebels also won the 4th Region All A championship, the 13th District championship, and picked up their first-ever win in the 4th Region tournament.
Todd Central’s Darby Delph and Ava Scott were named to the 4th Region All-Tournament team.
