The Madisonville-North Hopkins cross country program had three runners compete at Saturday’s Class 3A state cross country meet in Lexington.
Sophomore Dakota Evans finished in 30th place in the boys’ race with a time of 16:47 over the 3.1-mile course at the Kentucky Horse Park.
Evans just missed a personal best time by 15 seconds, set at the region meet where he finished in third place.
He was making his third state meet appearance after a 47th-place finish last year and a 106th-place finish as an 8th grader.
In the girls’ race, sophomore Katie Gillette finished in 88th place in 21:27, and freshman Coley Mitchell was 125th in 21:59.
Gillette was making her third run at state. She was 81st last year and 171st in 2021.
Mitchell, who ran a personal best time at the region meet, was 216th at last year’s state meet and improved her time by over a minute and a half.
