The Christian County Colonels will have the chance Friday night to put a season of struggles behind them. The Colonels hit the road to take on Central Hardin in the opening round of the Class 6A football playoffs.
Christian County enters the contest looking to put an end to a five-game skid that began after the Colonels’ win over Caldwell County back on September 21. Injuries and other issues have hampered the Colonels through the course of the season and a road win over Central Hardin would be a nice jolt to the end of the season.
One of the keys for the Colonels against the Bruins will be defensive play. The Christian County defense has seen its issues over the last half of the season, giving up 55 points to Bowling Green, 64 to Henderson County, and 72 last week to Mayfield.
Central Hardin became the top seed in the 2nd District after North Hardin had to forfeit a string of games due to an ineligible player. The forfeits cost North Hardin wins over Central Hardin and Barren County and dropped the Trojans to the third seed in the district.
Christian County enters the playoff as the 4th seed in the 1st District of the 1st Region.
Central Hardin has the higher RPI of the two teams at .49227, while Christian County comes in at .38855.
The matchup is just the second time in the past 25 years that the two teams have met. Both of the previous meetings came in the regular season. Central Hardin won 21-0 in 2001. Christian County returned the favor in 2002, winning 42-7.
The winner of Friday night’s contest will take on the winner of the game between Daviess County and North Hardin. If Christian County wins, the Colonels would be back on the road next Friday night. If Central Hardin wins, the Bruins would be the host team for the second round contest.
Kickoff Friday night is set for 7pm Eastern Time.
