With the state’s All-Time leading scorer and a long list of returning players, you would figure that the Lyon County Lyons would be a popular draw for teams and events across not only the Commonwealth but across the country. This season, you might just be able to call the Lyons the ‘Road Warriors.’

The 2023-2024 season will see the Lyons hitting the trail as they look to earn their third straight trip to Rupp Arena.

Check out these locales and the miles that the Lyons will travel to get there as part of this year’s schedule:

Columbia, Missouri – 329 miles
Wayland, Kentucky – 353 miles
Fort Myers, Florida – 922 miles
Lexington Catholic – 219 miles
Scott County – 229 miles
Bowling Green – 112 miles

That is 2,154 miles for those six locations, 4,308 round trip, not counting the more ‘local’ trips to places like Draffenville, Paducah, Smithland, and other Western Kentucky locations.

Plus, if the Lyons claim the 2nd Region All A title, you can add the 278 miles, or 556 miles round trip, to the Corbin Arena to that list, meaning the Lyons will travel well over 5,000 miles this season, by the time you add in the ‘easy’ travel.

Maybe the theme song this year for the Lyons should be Willie Nelson’s ‘On the Road Again.’
