It looks like the Christian County Tigers will have to wait a while longer to roar on the field of athletic competition. After previous start-and-stop announcements for the athletic program at the soon-to-be consolidated school, Christian County school officials have now announced that athletics at the school will get rolling when the new school is ready to go.
In a statement issued late Monday afternoon, the Christian County Public Schools announced the decision not to proceed with the early consolidation of its high schools, athletics, or extra-curricular programming prior to the finished construction of the new Christian County High School.
School officials now say “The district plans to shift its focus towards cultivating excitement and unity while prioritizing students through enriched learning opportunities and enhanced extra-curricular and athletic advancements.”
In the statement, Superintendent Chris Bentzel noted “As we progress towards the opening of the new high school, our goal is to improve academic, athletic, and extracurricular opportunities for all students. We want to provide clarity to our families in our direction and be intentional in our focus over the next two years.”
The new Christian County High School, which will be located on Fort Campbell Boulevard, is scheduled to open in the fall of 2026.
Previously intentions were announced to have athletics consolidated in the Fall of 2023, then the fall of 2024, and then a decision was announced that no timetable would be set for the consolidation of athletics for the immediate future.
