The Caldwell County Tigers lost a heartbreaker in overtime in their season opener Tuesday night against Webster County. There was no such drama and suspense Thursday night at Fort Campbell.
The Tigers got 28 points from Jaydarius Wilson while the defense allowed just ten field goals over four quarters as Caldwell County cruised to a 66-30 win over the Falcons.
The Tigers took control of the contest early on in the game. With Fort Campbell having trouble with the speed and quickness of Carter Whittington and Collin Whittington out front and no answer for Jaydarius Wilson inside, Caldwell County ran out to a 17-6 lead after the opening quarter, and that was with the Tigers not scoring a point for nearly the first two minutes of the contest.
With Collin Whittington and Jaydarius Wilson leading the way, the Tigers’ offense continued to roll in the second quarter, putting 20 points up on the board and running the lead out to 37-15 at the break. If not for the play of Tyrek Anthony, things could have been worse for the Falcons.
Jaydarius Wilson had ten points at the half and cranked up to another level in the last 16 minutes of the game. He scored six points in the third quarter as Caldwell County extended the lead to 47-24 heading into the fourth.
Wilson put on a show over the final eight minutes, scoring 12 points, owning the glass, and sending several shots back in the direction from which they came, as Caldwell County ran out to the final 36-point margin.
In addition to Wilson’s 28 points, Collin Whittington also reached double figures with 11. Carter Whittington chipped in with 8, while Damarius Thompson had 7.
The Falcons were led by Tyrek Anthony with 11. Maurice Moore added four points for the Falcons.
Fort Campbell struggled from the field, going just 10 of 40, while the Tigers finished 28 of 54. Caldwell County also outrebounded the Falcons 40 to 23.
Fort Campbell (0-2) is now off until next Thursday when they travel to Heritage Christian.
Caldwell County (1-1) will host Fulton City Monday night.
