
After a win over Clarksville Christian to start the season, things turned rocky on Thursday for the Heritage Christian Academy boys’ basketball team as visiting Union County feasted in transition and dominated on the glass to double up the Warriors 71-35.
The Braves used a 10-4 run over the second half of the opening quarter to surge in front for good. Cale Johnson scored six and Daishawn Curry added four, while Jason Leek had four of the Warriors’ nine in the first frame.
HCA was within nine points after a putback by Layton Giltner with 5:07 left in the half, but a dunk by Curry ignited a a 12-2 spurt to put Union in front 34-15 at the halftime break.
The Braves outscored the Warriors 22-5 to start the third quarter and led 56-20 to trigger a running clock. Curry scored nine to finish with a game-high 21, and Cortayvion Rapier added six of his 16 to build a 37-point cushion to start the fourth.
Johnson finished with 12 for the Braves, Jaidyn Wilson had eight, and Cameron Miller scored seven.
Leek scored five in the fourth to lead the Warriors with 14. Cash Bolinger hit a pair of three-pointers to finish with six, and Bradley Boyd added five.
HCA will hit the road to face Dawson Springs on Saturday. The teams split a pair of meetings last season.
