Madisonville had to fight off a late-game rally from the Lady Colonels that saw them close to within two points with 11 seconds to go and having the ball with a chance to tie or take the lead. However, the turnover bug, which had plagued the Lady Colonels through the night, reared its ugly head again and Christian County did not get off a shot, turning the ball over, and was forced to foul, sending Noffsinger to the line for the game-clinching free throws.
The Lady Maroons would add another free throw with three seconds left to reach the final five point margin.
The Lady Colonels opened the night with a big defensive first quarter. If not for Riley Sword’s three-pointer, Christian County would have blanked Madisonville in the opening eight minutes as the Lady Colonels took a 10-3 lead. The Christian County defense was smothering in the quarter, giving the Lady Maroons no good looks at the basket.
Madisonville appeared to get settled in during the second quarter. The Lady Maroons came battling back and took a 17-16 lead. However, it was the Lady Colonels that appeared to have the momentum going into the half as they closed out the half on a 7-2 run to take a 23-19 lead.
The Lady Colonels and the Lady Maroons opened the second half going back and forth with the score being tied four times, the last coming at 30-30. Madisonville then went on a 10-3 run to close out the quarter and take a 40-33 lead.
After falling behind 42-33 early in the final quarter, the Lady Colonels began to nibble away at the lead. Christian County would get to within two at 52-50, but the rally would end there.
A big night for Anaysia Bagwell for Christian County as she finished with 25 points, including four made 3-pointers. NeVaeh Day added 13 points, while Lazarie Daniel also hit double-figures with 11.
Riley Sword led Madisonville with 18 points. Destiny Whitsell added 10 for the Lady Maroons.
