The Todd County Central girls’ basketball team hit the road on Saturday looking to bounce back from its first loss of the season but was handed a 52-49 overtime setback by hosts Monroe County. The Lady Rebels will be kicking themselves for some wayward free-throw shooting after finishing 13 for 24 to see their record slip to 2-2.
Todd Central overcame four points each from Monroe’s Ansley Turner and Sarah Thompson to lead 12-8 after the first quarter. But despite five points from Abby Williams, the Lady Rebels were outscored 10-9 in the second and settled for a three-point edge at halftime.
Monroe County surged in front after the break, with Turner scoring the last four points of her team-high 16 to put the Falcons up 33-32 at the end of the third. Williams finished with 15 to lead the Lady Rebels, including four in the fourth, and JaMya Kay drilled a pair of threes to help Todd Central force overtime.
The Lady Rebels were outscored 6-3 in OT and only managed one made free throw in four tries. Carlee Yakley, Ella Finley, and Jaylee Bartley each had a bucket for the Lady Falcons.
Alexis Taylor finished with 12 points for Todd Central, and Kay reached double figures with ten.
