Coming off a 40-point performance Saturday night in Wayland, Lyon County’s Piper Cotham decided to follow up with another big performance Tuesday night. Cotham scored 33 points as the Lady Lyons pulled away in the second half for a 72-58 win over Muhlenberg County in Greenville.

The Lady Lyons were able to overcome a tough night at the free throw line to come up with the win.

The game was tight through much of the night. The Lady Lyons led 18-16 after the first quarter. The Lady Mustangs battled back to take a two-point lead of their own at 36-34 going into the break. Muhlenberg County was able to get to the lead despite Cotham and Courtney Collins combining for 13 points in the quarter.

Piper Cotham was well into her big night at the break, putting up 20 points in the first half, 14 of those coming in the first quarter.

Sparked by a pair of threes from Gracen Wynn, Lyon County pulled even with the Lady Mustangs at 50-50 going into the final eight minutes of the game.

It was in the fourth quarter that the Lady Lyons dropped the proverbial hammer on the Lady Mustangs. Lyon County ripped off a 22-5 run to close out the game and take their second straight win and third in the last four games. The Lyon County defense limited the Lady Mustangs to just two field goals in the final eight minutes of the contest.

In addition to Piper Cotham’s 33 points for the Lady Lyons, Courtney Collins also reached double-figures with 16. Jenna Coursey added 9 points for Lyon County.

Brooklyn Stewart was Muhlenberg County’s leading scorer with 18 points. Taylor Wilkins finished with 16.
