Wildcats Move Into Championship of Chappel Allen Memorial Classic

After going back and forth for three quarters, the Trigg County Wildcats pulled away in the final frame to hand Hopkins County Central a 68-58 loss on Thursday and advance to the championship of the Chappel Allen Memorial Classic.

The Wildcats will play Union County in Friday’s championship. The Braves beat South Fulton, Tenn. 72-58.

Down one at halftime, Trigg fell further behind in the third quarter and trailed 39-30 before rallying to get to within 45-44.

Khamani Bush hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight of his 16 points in the final quarter. The senior guard earned Player of the Game honors.

Jhaden Vaughn led four Wildcats in double figures with 18 points – 14 coming in the second half.

Jerimyah Shearer scored a season-high 15 points and Davaree Gude added 14 points.

The Wildcats scored a season-high in points despite hitting just 10-of-19 at the free throw line.

Hopkins County Central stayed close thanks to nine 3-pointers. Riley Dunlap had four of the 3-pointers and scored a team-high 18 points.

Lake Sumner added 14 points for the Storm, who have dropped five straight games.

Union County (6-2) defeated South Fulton, Tenn. by 14 points in the opener. Daishawn Curry led the Braves with 25 points and Cameron Miller added 21 points.

South Fulton will play Hopkins County Central in the 5 pm consolation game. The championship game will tip at 6:30.
