
For the second straight day, Caldwell County’s girls got off to a great start.
The Lady Tigers led Rowan County 16-15 after one quarter as they looked to bring an end to the Lady Vikings’ four-game winning streak.
But the 16th Region school turned things around in a big way in the second period. Rowan outscored Caldwell by 19 points, 23-4, in the frame, and went on to capture a 69-49 triumph.
The Lady Vikings (7-3) leave Princeton with a 2-0 showing in the 2023 West Kentucky Hoops Classic.
Kassi Perkins was the Player of the Game for Rowan, going 7 of 10 from the field and nailing 6 of 8 from 3-point land while totaling 20 points.
Diamond Wills added 18 points while Kelbie Ford had 10.
Caldwell’s Player of the Game was Brylee Butts, who hit 11 of 14 free throws while producing a game-high 22 points along with six rebounds.
The Lady Tigers also got 11 points from Tink Clark.
Caldwell (1-7) hung with Rowan for about 10 minutes before suffering its fourth straight setback.
The game had five lead changes and five ties in the early going.
Caldwell’s last lead came at 18-15, but Rowan went on a 26-2 run after that to go up 41-20 early in the second half.
The meeting was the first ever between the Lady Tigers and the Lady Vikings.
On Thursday, Caldwell opened the game with a 9-2 run but ultimately fell to Logan County 65-37 in the Hoops Classic.
The Lady Tigers will play at home again next Friday, hosting Whitesville Trinity from the 3rd Region for a noon varsity game.
