
With Jordan Miles and Prince Northington II still missing from the lineup, Christian County’s Derrell Bateman picked up the scoring slack once again with 31 points on Thursday to propel the Colonels to a 73-56 victory over Huntingdon, TN at the FND Bank Holiday Classic at Marshall County.
Bateman’s second dunk of the first quarter made it 11-2 Christian County, part of a ten-point quarter for the senior. Theo Quarles chipped in six points for the Colonels, and they led 17-11 after one.
The Colonels stretched the advantage to ten points after Quarles’ layup with 4:20 left in the half. Darren Bigbee drilled three-pointers on consecutive possessions for Christian County, and Bateman closed the half with four-straight points for a 37-23 halftime lead.
Fifteen third-quarter points for Bateman blew the game open while Ja’Sean Riley added five for the Colonels. With the margin at 27 points, Bateman got the fourth quarter off and Quarles helped the Colonels over the line with eight of his 18 points.
Christian County put the brakes on a two-game skid to improve to improve to 4-5. The Colonels will wrap up play at Marshall County on Friday with a matchup with New Faith Christian Academy out of Georgia.
