An offensive lull during the third quarter was the undoing for the Lyon County Lady Lyons Wednesday evening. The Lady Lyons mustered just six points in the quarter as Christian Academy of Louisville broke open a close game on their way to a 76-56 win in the opening round of the Kelly Holiday Classic at Bourbon County High School.

Lyon County was hanging with the Lady Centurions during the first 16 minutes of the game. CAL was up 20-15 after the first quarter and had inched that lead out to 40-33 at the half.

The Lady Centurions’ defense came out to start the second half and put the squeeze on the Lady Lyons in the third. Lyon County was limited to just two Trinity Taylor field goals and two free throws from Piper Cotham as CAL pushed the lead out to 58-39 heading into the final quarter.

The two teams played pretty much even over the final quarter, but the deficit from the third was too much for the Lady Lyons to overcome.

Piper Cotham, Jenna Coursey, and Lexi Holland all hit 10 points for the Lady Lyons. Courtney Collins added 9.

Christian Academy of Louisville was led by Brianna Wilkins with 25 points. Ava Moore added 21.

Lyon County (6-4) is back in action Thursday taking on Bourbon County.
