The Caldwell County Tiger wrestling team was on fire at the Woodford County Invitational this weekend.
A championship in the duals part of the tournament on Friday was followed by a strong second-place finish in the individual competition on Saturday in Versailles.
Caldwell went undefeated on Friday in dual action and edged LaRue County 34-33 in the finals to capture the championship.
The Tigers picked up two wins in pool play, defeating Scott County 45-35 and Franklin County 57-21.
That put Caldwell into the semifinals, where the Tigers beat Anderson County 45-28 to advance to the championship match.
On Saturday, Caldwell had three individual champions while totaling 201 points to trail only Harrison County (247.5) in the 19-team field.
Logan Brown at 126 pounds, Timothy Nichols at 150 and Cole Sherill at 215 each took the top step of the podium with undefeated showings on Saturday.
Brown was 3-0, taking his first two matches with a technical fall and a pin. He then won by medical forfeit over Anthony Condi of Frederick Douglass in the championship round.
Nichols picked up four pins while rolling through the 150-pound class. He pinned Jacob Wolfe of Frederick Douglass in 5:26 in the finals.
Sherill did the same at 215, going 4-0 with four pins. He pinned Jahvon Frazier of Bryan Station in 3:37 in the championship match.
Another Tiger reached the finals but fell in the championship match. Justin Klidzejs was runner-up at 106 after going 2-1 but being pinned in the first-place match. His two wins both came by pin.
Caldwell had three wrestlers claim third-place finishes — Andre Carter at 113, Cofy Walls at 144 and Cale Goodwin at 165.
Carter went 3-1 in his class, including a 15-0 technical fall over Payton Elkins of North Hardin in the third-place match.
Walls was 4-1, with his only setback a 4-2 decision in the semifinals. He beat LaRue County’s Westin Brown 10-1 in the third-place match.
Goodwin went 4-1 as well. After falling in the semifinals, Goodwin came back to pin Jack Howard of Harrison County in 2:49 for third.
Donovan Rogers finished fourth at 132 with a 3-2 day. He dropped a 6-4 decision to Johnathan Stewart of North Hardin in the third-place match.
Cooper Mobley was 3-2 with three pins at 285 but did not place.
Elijah Kirby was 2-2 at 120 but failed to place.
Caldwell outdistanced third-place LaRue by 25.5 points.
The Tigers will next wrestle in the Father Ryan Invitational in Nashville Jan. 5-6.
