Maurice Moore’s two free throws with four seconds to go in the game helped the Fort Campbell Falcons secure their third straight win and their first of the New Year Thursday night. Moore scored 21 points in leading the Falcons to a 57-53 home-court win over the Crittenden County Rockets.
Emotions ran a big high over the final minutes of the game with an incident inside the final two minutes leading to players from both teams being ejected.
In addition to his 21 points, Moore also pulled down nine rebounds for the night.
The Falcons fell behind early in the game as the Rockets took a 17-12 lead after the opening quarter. Bryson Walker had a big second quarter for Crittenden County as the lead crew to 30-24 at the half.
Lashaad Smiley and Dason Tate helped lead a Fort Campbell rally in the third quarter. The two combined for 12 points as the Falcons battled back to take a 40-35 lead into the final eight minutes of the game.
The Falcons were able to fend off a Rocket comeback attempt in the final quarter and held on for the four-point win.
The big difference in the game was the cold shooting for Crittenden County. The Rockets took 21 more shots than did Fort Campbell but made five less.
In addition to Moore’s 21 for Fort Campbell, Lashaad Smiley had 10 points while Jamile Wilson and John Arnold finished with 7 points each.
Crittenden County was paced by Turner Sharp with 12 points. Jaxon Hatfield and Bryson Walker ended up with 11 points each.
Fort Campbell improved to 3-3 with the win. The Falcons are back in action Friday when they host Christian Fellowship.
