Caldwell Claims 3 Medals at Father Ryan Invitational

Caldwell County wrestlers brought home three medals from the prestigious Johnny Drennan ‘85 Memorial Invitational at Father Ryan High School in Nashville this weekend.

Logan Brown and Timothy Nichols each took fourth-place finishes while Cole Sherill placed fifth in the difficult field.

Seven states were represented in the 49-team field — Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, South Carolina, Illinois and Wisconsin.

Brown went 5-2 at 126 pounds in the two-day event. After being pinned in the quarterfinal round, Brown won three straight matches in the consolation round before being pinned in the third-place match.

Nichols was 5-2 at 150. He also suffered a loss in the quarterfinal round but came back to win three straight matches and earn a spot in the third-place match. Nichols dropped a close match in overtime 10-8 to finish fourth.

Sherill was 6-2 at 215 pounds to take fifth. He took the fifth-place match by forfeit.

Other Tigers wrestled well but failed to medal.

Justin Klidzejs went 3-2 at 106 with all three of his wins coming by pin.

Andre Carter posted a 3-2 mark at 113.

Donovan Rogers was 2-2 at 132.

Union County won the team title with 272 points. McCallie (Tenn.) was second with 245.5 while host Father Ryan took third with 229.5.

Caldwell placed 15th in the team standings with 100.5 points.

Caldwell’s wrestlers will next wrestle Tuesday night when they host Senior Night at Butler Gym in Princeton. McCracken County and Warren County will provide the opposition.
