Crittenden and Lyon Lead the Pack in Girls’ 2nd Region All A Tourney Field

If patterns were set in stone, this would likely be the Lyon County Lady Lyons turn to win the girls’ 2nd Region All A Classic. Since 2017, Lyon County has won the region in even-numbered years, while Crittenden County has won 3 of the odd-numbered year titles. UHA won the other ‘odd’ title and the Lady Blazers are not fielding a team during the 2023-2024 season.

As the season has played out so far, it would appear that the two teams that have won six of the last seven titles would be the favorites to battle it out for the championship again.

The tournament gets underway Monday night with three games at school sites with the semifinals and finals to be played at Caldwell County High School on Thursday and Saturday.

Monday night action has Crittenden County hosting Dawson Springs, Caldwell County hosting Heritage Christian Academy, and Lyon County hosting Livingston Central. Fort Campbell was originally slated to host University Heights, instead, the Lady Falcons will be headed to the semifinals to face the winner of Lyon County and Livingston Central.

Defending champ Crittenden County enters the week at 7-7. The Lady Rockets lost an overtime game early in the season to Livingston Central but came back and got wins over Caldwell County and Lyon County. Crittenden has struggled as of late, dropping four of their last five games.

Lyon County, who won the region in 2022, comes in at 10-5 and has won four of its last five games. The only loss in that stretch was to a strong Daviess County team on Saturday. The Lady Lyons also have wins over Caldwell County and Livingston Central, but let one slip away earlier in the season at Crittenden County.

Two teams appear to have a shot at breaking the grip of the Lady Lyons and the Crittenden County Lady Rockets on the tournament.

Livingston Central comes in at 5-4 and has won four of its last five games. However, the loss in that stretch was a double-digit loss to Lyon County. The Lady Cardinals do have a win over Crittenden County. The question for Livingston Central will be whether or not the Lady Cardinals can put up enough points over three games. Livingston has only scored more than 50 points twice in nine games.

Caldwell County is just 4-9 but has enough talent to give the other teams at the top of the All A region problems on any given night. The Lady Tigers won back-to-back regional titles in 2009 and 2010.

Heritage Christian, Dawson Springs, and Fort Campbell, at this point, appear to be a little lacking in firepower to break through against the top four in the 2nd Region.

The winner of the regional tournament will head off to Corbin for the All A Classic state tournament, which gets underway January 23 in the Corbin Arena.
