John Calipari Likes Players Who are Used to Being Chased

Kentucky coach John Calipari sometimes has a different way with words. But sometimes he also puts things into context that are easier to understand.

He provided that kind of life lesson/insight after his team beat Missouri Tuesday night to move to 2-0 in Southeastern Conference play going into Saturday’s game at Texas A&M.

Calipari has been a prolific recruiter at Kentucky and sent players to the NBA who have made life-changing money. He explained his philosophy on coaching five-star recruits Tuesday.

“Five-star players have been chased their whole lives. They have never chased anybody. They got chased and they can deal with it,” Calipari said.

“When you come here at Kentucky. You are being chased. If you are not used to it, you will struggle. If you are a three-star or four- star and you are always chasing and all of a sudden it flips and they are chasing you, it’s a different mentality.

“That’s why these kids have been chased and none of it phases them. The way they are playing — playing for each other.”

The way Kentucky is playing right now is special, especially if you like offense because even on what seems like it might be an off night the Cats can still put up 85 or more points and that has been fun to watch.

  1. Yes Larry. Yes it has. I am hoping they get to the final 4. We already bought out tickets to Phoenix! ! ! Yes it’s a bit early for that but my brother and sister both live in Phoenix so either way it’s good money spent!

    Go Cats! !

  2. "Life Changing-Money". Wheeew. We won’t go into that. I’ll let Enes "Freedom" Kanton take the mic on that one. Most fans do not know. And you know Larry. They need to publish how much each one of these guys gives back to the University besides AD.

  3. Don’t mind. Flying Southwest. Bought them for 303 and some change. That’s each. used SW and Mariott points so actual cost was less than that. We usually buy tickets to the Final 4 well in advance on SW and book hotel thru Marriott (wife is a chef there and the room rates are amazing). If the cats don’t make it we change the flight to the Keys and cancel the hotel reservations. If you do that before December, you save a bundle. Not loaded so we always "Ball on a Budget" as our son’s like to say! We get tickets there. I have a way that usually works and we get them at cost. Not sharing that because then it would lessen our chances of success. But it’s worked since the Pimptino years!!! Like Cal always says "BBN always gets in"
