In the first of what could be three meetings this season, the Logan County Lady Cougars edged Todd County Central 55-53 on Friday to move into a first place tie in the 13th District standings.

Eighth-grader Brenley Adler scored 10 of her game-high 21 points in the fourth quarter for Logan County, who turned a five-point halftime deficit into a six-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.

TaKyiah Mason scored 10 points for Logan County in the third period to help the Lady Cougars outscore Todd 18-7. Mason finished with 20 points.

Jordyn Shemwell scored a bucket inside the final seconds to get Todd County to within two points, but Logan was able to run out the clock for the win. Shemwell scored nine of her 14 points in the final frame.

JaMya Kay led the Lady Rebels with 16 points. She scored nine points in the opening period as Todd jumped out to a 14-9 advantage. Alexis Taylor added 15 points.

Todd County played a second straight game without second-leading scorer Abby Williams (14.5 ppg.). After suffering an injury last week, she is expected to return to the Lady Rebel lineup in the next 1-2 weeks.

After an 11-3 start, Todd County Central has dropped three straight games – two of those in district play.

The win was Logan County’s fourth straight and sixth in its last seven games. The Lady Cougars have also won three straight and 14 of 15 against Todd County Central.

Todd and Logan will meet again on February 2 in Elkton. If Franklin-Simpson, now 14-0, wins the district, the teams could meet a third time in the district tournament.

Logan County (12-4) will host Allen County-Scottsville (8-6) on Tuesday. Todd County Central (11-6) will travel to Hopkinsville (3-5) on Monday.
