
The Todd County Central girls basketball team got 27 points from Alexis Taylor and opened the game on a 26-3 run to put a three-game losing streak in the rearview mirror and stomp visiting Russellville 74-14 on Saturday night in Elkton.
The Lady Rebels earned their first 13th-District victory of the season to improve to 12-6. Russellville lost for the ninth-straight time to slip to 1-13 and remain winless in district play.
A 12-0 run to open the first quarter set the tone, with Taylor scoring eight early points. Jaeda Poindexter’s jumper with just over four minutes played gave Russellville its first points before the Lady Rebels closed the frame on a 14-1 spurt. Taylor finished the half with 19 points after scoring eight in the second, and the Lady Rebels took a 44-12 advantage into the halftime break.
Todd Central triggered a running clock early in the second half on Shemwell’s free throw to make it 47-12. Making her return from injury, Abby Williams scored seven in the third to finish with ten, JaMya Kay scored 14, and Shemwell finished with 12.
An important stretch of district rematches are next for the Lady Rebels. They travel to Franklin-Simpson after falling 67-40 to the Lady Wildcats in Elkton, and host Logan County looking to avenge a two-point road defeat.
