The Heritage Christian Academy Warriors were in the comeback spirit Tuesday night. The Warriors rallied from a double-digit second-half deficit, scoring the final six points of the game to take a 62-59 road win at Community Christian.

A baseline jumper from Camden Higgins with just under 40 seconds remaining was the go-ahead bucket for Heritage Christian, who trailed most of the night.

Community scored the first basket of the game and never trailed in the opening quarter, leading 19-12 at quarter’s end.

HCA rallied in the second, getting as close as 23-22. However, Community Christian fended off the rally, for the moment, by scoring nine straight and taking a 32-22 lead late in the first half. The Warriors from Paducah led 36-26 at the break.

The Heritage defense limited Community Christian to just eight points in the third quarter as the Warriors from Hopkinsville had the lead down to three points at the end of the quarter at 44-41.

After trailing by as many as seven in the fourth, HCA ripped off an 8-0 run to take their first lead of the night at 54-53 and the back-and-forth battle was on to the end of the game.

Jeremy Leek led Heritage with 15 points. He got help from Charles Wells and Camden Higgins, who scored 13 points each.

The win, which was the Warriors’ second straight win on the road, improves HCA to 8-7. Up next is a game against Christian Fellowship Friday in the KCAC state tournament.
