On the surface, it looks like a straight-forward 56-43 win for Caldwell County over Crittenden County on Tuesday.
It was anything but ordinary, though, for the Tigers, who trailed most of the first half and found themselves down 36-28 in the third quarter.
Crittenden (2-14) slowed down the contest and bottled up Caldwell big man Jaydarius Wilson with a box-and-one defense.
Wilson was limited to just four points and two rebounds in the first half as the Rockets built a 31-25 advantage at the break.
When Brayden Poindexter nailed a 3-pointer with 5:19 left in the third quarter, Crittenden had its biggest lead of the night at eight points.
However, Luke Parker made a 3 at the other end for Caldwell 12 seconds later.
That started what would be a game-altering 20-2 run over the next 8 minutes as the Tigers increased the tempo and the Rocket offense started to fizzle.
That turned a 36-28 deficit in the third quarter into a 48-38 lead in the fourth period.
Caldwell (11-7) led by as much as 15 points late in the contest.
The Tigers held the Rockets to just 12 points in the second half.
Meanwhile, Wilson also picked up the pace inside for Caldwell, finishing with a game-high 16 points and 15 rebounds.
Demaurius Thompson had 12 points, Carter Whittington finished with 10, Cade Rowland had eight points, and Parker had seven points and nine rebounds.
Bryson Walker led Crittenden County with 11 points. Poindexter added nine points and eight rebounds.
Caldwell held a 36-22 advantage on the boards.
The Tigers have taken their last two matchups with Crittenden and eight of the last nine.
The Tigers have won six of their last eight games this season.
Caldwell will go to Trigg County on Thursday as part of a girls and boys doubleheader before hosting Dawson Springs for a key 7th District date Friday night.
