Alston Has Hoptown’s Top Finish at Louisville Indoor Games

Hopkinsville took eight athletes to the Louisville Indoor Games held on Saturday at the Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center.

Gavin Alston had the best individual finish for Hoptown, running the 200-meter dash in 23.15 seconds which was good for a 23rd-place finish out of 130 entries.

Alston also finished 30th in the 400-meter run in 53.18.

Elijah Reid ran the 60-meter hurdles in 9.56 seconds which saw him place 36th out of 186 entries. Keyshun Teal finished 42nd in 10.26 seconds.

In the one-mile run, Tyson Cavinder ran a 5:14.68 to place 93rd, while Carlo Jones was 105th at 5:34.42.

Cavinder also placed 104th in the 800-meter run in 2:21.14.

Hopkinsville’s 1600-meter relay team ran a 4:08.19 to place 14th.

In the shot put, Devin Coleman finished 32nd with a heave of 32-5.25, and Davian Simon, who just wrapped up his bowling season at the region, was 34th at 32-3.75.

Lauren Mayes was the lone female representative for Hopkinsville, finishing 74th in the one-mile run in 6:44.18.

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association sanctioned indoor track as a sport last summer and will hold its first state indoor track meet on March 2 in Louisville.
