Lady Maroons Subdue Caldwell for 7th District’s No. 1 Seed

Madisonville-North Hopkins completed an undefeated regular-season run through the 7th District with a 50-39 win over Caldwell County’s girls Tuesday night.

The Lady Maroons scored the first seven points of the night and never trailed.

Caldwell tried to hang close earlier, getting back to within two points twice late in the first quarter.

But Madisonville took a 15-9 lead to the second period.

Caldwell got to within three points twice in the first half – the last at 19-16 on a Brylee Butts 3-pointer at the 4:15 mark.

But the Lady Maroons closed the second quarter with an 11-3 burst to extend the margin to double figures, 30-19, at the break.

Madisonville led by as much as 15, 41-26, in the third quarter before Caldwell tried to make a run in the final frame.

Med Thomas hit a 3, then Tink Clark scored from in close to make it a 41-33 game with 5:27 to play.

However, Madisonville got a 3 from Riley Sword at the other end, and the Lady Maroons led by double digits the rest of the way.

Sword had 14 points to lead Madisonville while Destiny Whitsell added 11. Macy Wright and Kailey Barber each had eight points.

Caldwell got a game-high 18 points from Butts. Clark had eight points.

Madisonville pushed its winning streak against Caldwell to 15 straight in a run going back to the 2018 7th District tournament.

The Lady Maroons (13-9, 6-0) had already secured the No. 1 seed for the district tournament, which will be played in Madisonville the last week of February.

The Lady Maroons will face No. 4 Dawson Springs in the tourney semifinals.

Caldwell (6-16, 2-4) was already locked into the No. 3 seed and will take on No. 2 Hopkins County Central in the other district semifinal.

The Lady Tigers will hit the court again on Thursday when they host Trigg County.

The Lady Maroons are off until hosting Owensboro next Monday.
