
The Fort Campbell boys’ basketball team got 19 points from freshman Lashaad Smiley to put the brakes on a four-game skid on Thursday, topping hosts Community Christian 78-61.
Fort Campbell improved to 6-14 ahead of Friday’s regular-season finale at Fort Knox. Community Christian slipped to 8-19 with its second defeat in a row.
Lyndell Smith scored all five of his points in the first quarter for the Falcons, with Smiley and Jamile Wilson combining for eight to lead Fort Campbell to a 16-9 advantage.
Maurice Moore posted seven points in the second and Eric Greene added five to help the Falcons outscore Community Christian 21-20 and take a 37-29 lead into the halftime break.
Smiley scored ten in the third on the way to a game-high 19, just missing a double-double with nine rebounds. Moore and Anthony combined for ten for a 15-point cushion with a quarter to play.
Greene scored five in the fourth to join Smiley in double figures with 12 for the Falcons, and Moore posted a double-double with 15 points and ten boards.
Cooper Reed led Community Christian with 18 points, Shad Luker scored 13, Ahmed Dee added 12, and Bradon DeJarnatt finished with ten.
The Falcons won the rebounding battle 42-28. They left 11 points at the foul line while Community Christian connected on 18 of 26 attempts from the charity stripe.
