Balanced Webster Uses 2nd Half Run to Best Caldwell

Caldwell County put together a strong first half for the second straight night. But Webster County scored the first 14 points of the second half to take the lead, and the Trojans went on to claim a 65-52 victory Friday on Senior Night in Dixon.

Caldwell (15-11) ran out to a 12-4 advantage early and held an 18-15 advantage after one period.

Webster (14-12) came back to take the lead in the second period before the Tigers got to halftime with a 31-28 advantage.

But Caldwell went almost 4 minutes without scoring to start the third period. Meanwhile, the homestanding Trojans used their big run to go up 42-31.

Webster led by as much as 14 at 47-33 before Caldwell made a bid to get back in the contest.

The Tigers clawed back as close as 47-42 midway through the fourth quarter. But Caldwell could get no closer, as Webster pushed the final margin back to 13 points.

The Trojans had four players score in double figures while a fifth just missed.

Jarvis Starks Scott had 12 points and Evan Michalek 11 while Malakai Orcutt and Deshawn Murphy each had 10. Micah Austin added nine points.

For Caldwell, Carter Whittington and Jaydarius Wilson each had 14 points. Luke Parker added 13.

Webster has taken four straight from Caldwell and 10 of the last 11 meetings.

On Thursday, Caldwell led Mayfield 29-24 at halftime before suffering a 57-50 setback.

The Tigers will play their third game in three days when they host Graves County Saturday afternoon. The Eagles are 19-8.
