Evansville Central did something Friday night that most teams have not been able to do during the 2023-2024 basketball season. Central contained Christian County big man Derrell Bateman and in turn was able to hand the Colonels a 53-41 loss in their final game of the regular season in a late-schedule addition.

Bateman did not score in the fourth quarter as Central was able to secure the 12-point win over the Colonels. The 41 point total for Christian County was the lowest of the season.

The game was a slow-tempo affair from the beginning as Central limited Christian County to seven points in the opening quarter on the way to an 11-7 lead. The lead would grow to 25-19 at the break.

Both teams put up 11 points in the third quarter as the game entered the final eight minutes with Central having a 36-30 lead. With Bateman not scoring, the Colonels could not mount a late-game charge and Central held on for the 12-point win.

Derrell Bateman was the only player for Christian County to hit double figures with 10 points. Jordan Miles, Prince Northington, and Theo Quarles added 8 points each.

With the loss, Christian County ends the regular season at 14-16.
