
When Hopkins County Central visited Madisonville-North Hopkins earlier this month, the Storm got out of town with a 65-61 upset.
Madisonville made sure not to give Hopkins Central an opening in the 7th District semifinal on Tuesday. The Maroons grabbed the upper hand over the final 3 minutes of the first quarter and eventually pushed the margin past 30 points in the second half.
Madisonville stretched a 23-14 lead after 8 minutes to 41-24 at halftime.
It was 52-31 through three quarters as the Maroons moved on to Friday’s district championship game with a 74-46 triumph.
Madisonville (16-15) will take on Caldwell County (19-12) for the 7th District title.
Kanyon Johnson led a balanced Maroon effort against the Storm with 16 points. Montae Ratcliff and Antonio Gant each had 14 points.
Hopkins Central got 11 points from Devanyae Butcher and 10 from Drake Skeen.
The Storm ends the season with a mark of 10-18.
Both Madisonville and Caldwell County have punched their tickets to the 2nd Region tournament next week at Hopkinsville High School.
