The Todd County Central Lady Rebels now know their opponent for the quarterfinal round of the girls’ 4th Region tournament. And, while the Lady Rebels are quite excited to be making their first regional appearance in six seasons, the team they will be facing has waited even longer for a chance to play for the regional title.
The Lady Rebels will match up Monday night against 15th District champion Warren East. The Lady Raiders picked up a district title by defeating Glasgow 43-31 in the semifinals and then rolling past Allen County-Scottsville in the district championship game.
Warren East heads to Diddle Arena with a 26-4 record. Their losses came to Barren County, Franklin-Simpson, Monroe County, and Greenwood. The Lady Rebels and the Lady Raiders did not play during the regular season. The teams played twice last season with Todd County Central winning both games. Alexis Taylor was the leading scorer for the Lady Rebels in both wins.
Warren East has five players averaging between 5.6 and 10.2 points per game. Sam Carver, Madison Lawson, Kennedy Lawson, Lydia Jones, RaeEllen Jones, and Rileigh Jones, all play significant roles for the Lady Raiders. The Lady Raider defense is also a big part of the team’s success, as Warren East has only given up 50 or more points seven times this season.
Todd Central head coach Nick Suttle likes the matchup with the Lady Raiders. Suttle points to the strength of Alexis Taylor down inside as one area where the Lady Rebels could have an advantage in the game.
The Todd County Central-Warren East game will tip off Monday night at 6pm in Diddle Arena. The second game Monday night will find Metcalfe County taking on South Warren.
The 4th Region tournament gets underway Sunday afternoon at 3pm with Franklin-Simpson taking on Allen County-Scottsville. That game will be followed by Bowling Green battling Russell County.
The semifinals are set for Thursday night beginning at 6pm. The championship game will be Saturday, March 9 at 7pm.
