Any chance of Lyon County getting caught looking past Trigg County and on to next week’s region tournament disappeared quicker than Taylor Swift concert tickets.
A 19-2 run swelled into a 33-12 first quarter lead and a 100-50 Lyon County win. The district title is Lyon County’s sixth straight and 24th overall.
It was the first time a team hit 100 points in the championship game since Trigg County beat Livingston Central 104-56 in 1995.
The 50-point win was the largest in the district tourney since 1989 and the second-largest in the championship game. Crittenden County beat Salem 81-29 in the 1957 title game.
Playing in front of a packed house at Jason White Gymnasium, the Lyons played the aggressor and put up 30 shots, hitting 15. The Lyons had 10 offensive rebounds in the period and scored 12 second-chance points.
For the game, Lyon County held a 54-21 advantage on the glass.
Brady Shoulders scored 25 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for the Lyons. He and Bray Kirk provided an early 1-2 punch. Kirk finished with 19 points and six rebounds.
Travis Perry scored 27 points with 11 coming in the fourth quarter after the running clock was triggered. He was 10 of 23 from the field and added 10 rebounds and seven assists.
Jack Reddick scored 11 points and handed out eight assists, while Lukas Breedlove had seven rebounds and blocked six Trigg shots.
Trigg County, playing its second straight game without leading scorer and rebounder Jhaden Vaughn due to a knee injury, got 11 points each from Jerimyah Shearer and eighth-grader Timmy Williams.
The game was efficient from a stoppage standpoint with only 10 fouls called and five free throws attempted.
Lyon County topped 100 points for the seventh time this season while Trigg County had an opponent hang a hundred on them for the first time since a 103-78 loss to Lake County, Tennessee on Dec. 29, 2008.
Lyon County has won 16 straight games with the last seven coming by 40 or more points.
Both teams move into next week’s Second Region Tournament at Hopkinsville High School.
