Pairings Set for Boys 2nd Region Tournament

The pairings are now set for what may be the biggest 2nd Region boys basketball tournament in recent history. The draw for the tournament took place during an online meeting of school officials Saturday morning.

This year’s tournament is being played at Hopkinsville High School and will be played Wednesday, March 6, Thursday, March 7, Monday, March 11, and Tuesday, March 12.

In the Wednesday night games, 6th District champion Henderson County (24-6) will take on 5th District runner-up Trigg County (12-19) at 6pm. The two teams met back on February 20 with Henderson County picking up a 77-48 win on the road.

Wednesday night’s second game, at approximately 7:30, will find 8th District champion University Heights (23-6) battling 7th District runner-up Caldwell County (19-13). The two teams did not play in the regular season. The last meeting between the teams was a Caldwell County win in the 2022 All A Classic.

Thursday night will get started with 7th District champ Madisonville-North Hopkins (17-15) taking on 6th District runner-up Union County (13-17) at 6:00. The teams met in Madisonville on January 9 with the Maroons coming away with a 77-70 win.

The final quarterfinal game Thursday night will have two-time defending region champion and 5th District champ Lyon County (29-3) battling 8th District runner-up Christian County (15-17). The teams met back on January 6 in the City of Hopkinsville Holiday Classic with the Lyons taking a 66-49 win in a tough physical game against the Colonels.

The 2nd Region boys semifinals will be played Monday, March 11 with game times at 6:00 and 7:30 with the title game set for Tuesday, March 12 at 7:00pm.

Tickets for the tournament will be 10-dollars and will be cash only.

With capacity crowds expected for much of the tournament, gates will open Wednesday and Thursday night at 4:45pm. For the semifinals on Monday, March 11, gates will open at 4:30pm. A time for championship night will be announced later.

The winner of the 2nd Region boys tournament will head off to Rupp Arena to take on the winner of the 16th Region Wednesday afternoon, March 20 at 1:30 Eastern time.
