
Hopkinsville had one top-10 finish at Saturday’s Class 2A State Indoor Track and Field Championships in Louisville.
Gavin Alston came in third place in the 400-meter dash in 51.42 seconds, nipped at the tape by .004 seconds by second place Asher Mattox of Bourbon County.
Alston also finished in 15th place in the 200-meter dash in 24.21 seconds.
Elijah Reed came in seventh place in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.21 seconds. Keyshun Teal was 12th in 9.50 seconds.
Tyson Cavinder was 14th in the 3000 meters in 10:08.36.
Devin Coleman was 17th in the shot put with a top throw of 35-07.75.
The 3200-meter relay team of Nick Klar, LaMareon Jeffers, Carlo Jones, and Savior Schaal finished in 12th place in 9:34.43.
The team of Klar, Jones, Jeffers, and Teal was 14th in the 1600-meter relay in 3:56.79.
As a team, Hopkinsville scored eight points and finished in 20th place.
Hoptown had one runner compete in the girls’ competition. Lauren Mayes was 11th in the 3000 meters in 12:59.74 and 15th in the 1500-meter run in 5:50.60.
Sunday’s state meet was the first indoor state championship sanctioned by the KHSAA. The outdoor track and field season begins later this month.
