Former Caldwell County High School standout Derrin Boyd has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Men’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, announced Monday by the league office.
Boyd was also a Second Team All-ASUN and All-Academic Team selection.
He was well on his way to First Team honors as a player before a season-ending knee injury derailed the rest of his season.
Boyd, who earned his first Academic All-ASUN selection, owns a 3.89 GPA as he pursues his Master of Business Administration. He is the first Men’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year from Lipscomb.
The Academic All-ASUN Team recognizes student-athletes who excel both on the court and in the classroom and exemplify the ASUN’s mission of Building Winners for Life. All the members of the team boast a 3.50 cumulative grade point average or better and participated in at least half of their team’s games.
The Princeton native ranks third in the conference in scoring this season with 17.6 points per game. He played in 22 contests with 20 starts this season. He averaged 3.6 rebounds per game on the season.
Boyd shot 44 percent from 3-point range this season to go along with 83.7 percent from the free-throw line (fourth in the ASUN).
The guard scored double-digits in 19 games, including nine 20-plus-point games and a 38-point performance at Florida Gulf Coast.
Boyd played as a graduate student this season at Lipscomb and still has one more year of eligibility remaining.
At Caldwell, Boyd finished fourth on the Tigers’ career scoring list with 1,911 points. He is also fifth on Caldwell’s all-time rebounding list with 633 boards.
Boyd is a 2019 Caldwell County graduate.
