Monty Todd isn’t ducking anyone on the Trigg County schedule as he enters his second season as Lady Wildcat softball coach.

Trigg opened the 2024 season Monday with a 3-0 loss to McCracken County at the Complex. It was the first-ever meeting between Trigg and McCracken, a team ranked in the state’s top 10 and owners of three straight region titles.

Addley Leidecker limited Trigg County to three hits over seven innings, and McCracken plated single runs in the second, third, and seventh innings.

Ellie Shoulders doubled home McCracken’s first run in the second inning, and Karleigh Grace Walker drew a walk and later stole home to put the Lady Mustangs up 2-0.

Trigg County had its best chance to break through on the scoreboard in the third when Veyda Grinols and Tember Oliver reached in errors and Rylee Hendricks singled. However, an infield grounder nipped Grinols at home for the second out, and the rally ended with a strikeout.

Trigg’s defense did its part to keep McCracken from extending its lead. Kiley Slone threw out a runner at third to complete a double play, catcher Kady Fuller picked off a runner at third and later threw out a runner trying to steal second, and the Lady Wildcat infield turned another double play in the seventh inning.

McCracken’s final run came before the seventh inning double play when Shoulders was hit by a pitch and came around to score on a sacrifice hit.

Grace Henderson and Macy Butler each had two of McCracken’s six hits. Leidecker spun a three-hitter, walking one and striking out six.

Hendricks had two of Trigg’s three hits with Fuller singling for the third hit.

Oliver allowed two earned runs and struck out two for the Lady Wildcats.

Trigg County’s upcoming schedule features home games with Second Region challengers Christian County, Madisonville, and Henderson County and two more with McCracken County.

The Lady Wildcats will host Madisonville on Tuesday. The Lady Maroons lost to defending region champion Henderson County 15-3 on Monday.
