Todd County Central posted three runs in its first at-bat on Wednesday against visiting West Creek, but the Rebel bats went quiet from there in a 14-3 five-inning loss to the Coyotes.
Diego Silva and Leonidas Muniz enjoyed big games, and they got West Creek started with a pair of RBI singles to put the Coyotes in front 2-0. However, the Rebels answered in the bottom of the first to tie the game on an RBI single by Grady Reding followed by a run-scoring double by Conner Wheeler.
Aaron Mansfield pushed Todd Central in front with a two-out RBI single, but that would be all West Creek pitcher Andres Garcia-Ortiz would surrender. Garcia-Ortiz only allowed one baserunner over the next three frames before pitching around a pair of singles in the fifth to finish off the win.
Jacob Slaughter got the start on the mound for the Rebels but lasted only two innings after allowing seven earned runs on seven hits with three walks and a strikeout. Reding worked the final three frames in relief, giving up six runs, four earned, on four hits with a pair of walks and a strikeout.
The Coyotes pushed five runs across in the second, highlighted by RBI singles by Muniz and David Noriega. Muniz added a two-run double in the third on the way to a three hit, four-RBI outing, and West Creek tacked on the final two runs in the top of the fifth.
The Rebels were outhit 11-5, with Reding and Wheeler each collecting two hits.
Todd Central slipped to 1-1 ahead of a visit from Northeast, TN on Thursday. The Eagles dropped to 0-3 with a 10-0 loss to Henry County on Monday.
