It took a couple of innings for the Christian County bats to show up in Thursday’s season opener at Russellville, but the Lady Colonels posted two runs in each of the next four frames and poured it on in the seventh on the way to a 15-1 victory.

After two scoreless frames, Haley Petterson provided the breakthrough with a solo home run with two outs in the third, and Avery Adcock later stole home to put the Lady Colonels in front 2-0.  However, after an error to open the bottom of the inning, Russellville got on the scoreboard when Ja’eda Poindexter brought in a run with a bunt single.

But that would be all Christian County’s Jordan Turner would allow, scattering three hits and walking four with 12 strikeouts over seven innings.  The Lady Colonels scored six runs over their next three at-bats before erupting for seven runs in the seventh frame.

A single and a pair of walks loaded the bases with one out ahead of a two-run single by Jada Miller, and Adcock delivered a bases-loaded single to score two.  Gracie Harned doubled in a run and Jordan Turner and Jayda Turner added RBI singles to push the margin to 14 runs.

Jordan Turner finished 4/5 at the plate with two RBI, followed by Harned with three hits and a pair of runs driven in.  Miller hit safely twice and drove in three, Adcock finished 2/3 with two RBI, and Petterson and Grant each had a hit and an RBI.

For Russellville, Poindexter, Crissy Higgins, and Kayelynn Davenport each had a hit.  Chloe Penrod took the loss for the Lady Panthers, allowing six runs, three earned, on eight hits with five walks and four strikeouts.

Christian County will look to make it two in a row to start the season with a trip to Trigg County on Tuesday.  The Lady Colonels have never lost in six meetings with the Lady Wildcats.
