It has been a tough first week of the 2024 baseball season for the Lyon County Lyons. The Lyons dropped their third straight game to open the season Saturday as they fell 6-2 on the road at Apollo, a state semifinalist from last season.

Apollo pitcher Noah Cook held the Lyons to just three hits over 6 1/3 innings of work as the Eagles built a 6-0 lead.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the 4th when the Eagles loaded the bases off a single and two walks. Apollo scored off a Lyon County miscue, a walk, and then a two-run single.

Apollo added a run in the 5th on another Lyon County error and then a run in the 6th off an RBI single.

The Lyons finally broke through in the top of the 7th. Peyton Williams opened the inning with a double, chasing Noah Cook from the mound. Turner Hurst singled and then Williams and Hurst both scored on a base hit from Colton Prow.

But that would be the end of the rally as the Eagles took the win.

Eli Baker was tagged with the loss for the Lyons. Baker went four innings, giving up four runs on just two hits, striking out eight and walking three.

Noah Cook got the win for Apollo, going 6 1/3 innings, giving up one run on three hits, striking out seven and walking only one.
