After a pair of easy wins to open the week and the 2024 baseball season, the Christian County Colonels have now dropped three in a row to end the week, including a pair of games Saturday.
The Colonels traveled to Lexington for games against Lexington Catholic and Louisville Male.
In the opener against the defending 11th Region champs, Christian County took an early lead but then saw the Knights score five unanswered runs to take the 5-2 win.
The Colonel got on the board in the first. Carter Sholar led off the game with a home run to get Christian County off to a 1-0 lead. After back-to-back one-out singles from Aiden Lewis and Gage Montes, Blake Boehman scored pinch-runner Andrew Fincham on a sac fly to extend the lead to 2-0.
Lexington Catholic strung together three hits with two outs in the bottom of the third to cut the Colonel lead to 2-1. The Knights then erupted for four runs in the bottom of the 4th to take a 5-2 lead that would hold up for the rest of the game. Catholic was able to take full advantage of two walks and a hit batter in the inning by adding in a double and two singles.
Knights’ starter Pierre Kauffmann and reliever Connor Busson held the Colonels hitless over the final three innings to close out the win.
Aiden Lewis was 2-3 for Christian County. Carter Sholar was 1-4 with the game-opening home run.
Starter Aiden Lewis was tagged with the loss for the Colonels, going three innings and giving up three runs on three hits, striking out five while walking three.
In the second game of the day, three Male pitchers combined to throw a one-hitter as the Bulldogs took a 6-1 win over the Colonels.
Male scored two runs in the first, two runs in the third, and two more in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead. The Bulldogs scored on a two-run double after a Christian County error in the first, a two-run home run in the second, and a pair of doubles in the fourth.
Christian County got on the board in the bottom of the 5th on a dropped third strike, a walk, and a sac fly off the bat of Carter Sholar.
Gage Montes had the Colonels’ only hit of the game with a two-out single in the bottom of the first inning.
Montes took the loss on the hill for Christian County, going four innings in the start, giving up six runs, four of them earned, on eight hits, striking out three and walking none.
