The Lyon County softball team cruised past Pope County, IL 21-6 on Saturday, but found runs hard to come by in a matchup with Paducah Tilghman in a 3-1 loss to the Blue Tornado.

After picking up their first win of the season on Friday, the Lady Lyons rode that momentum to an early lead and posted at least three runs in each at-bat against Pope County.  Olivia Moore got started on a four-RBI game with a single to highlight a four-run first and drove in another run to put Lyon County in front 8-0 in the second.

Jenna Coursey’s three-run inside-the-park home run stretched the margin to 12 before Pope County pushed three runs across in the bottom of the third.  Audrey Akridge answered with an RBI triple in the top of the fourth, Coursey doubled in another run, and Moore cleared the left-field fence with a two-run home run for an 18-4 advantage.

Lilly Perry pitched a perfect first to pick up the win and drove in three runs.  Destiny Cayce worked the last four frames, allowing six runs, five earned, on five hits with four walks and four strikeouts.

Coursey joined Moore with four RBI, Lauren Davis and Gracen Wynn each had three hits, and Wynn, Akridge, and Lyla Melton each drove in a pair of runs.

Pope County slipped to 1-5 with Maddie Walker taking the loss in the circle after allowing 21 runs, 18 earned, on 18 hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

After two scoreless innings to start the second game, Courtney Collins doubled in a run to put the Lady Lyons in front against Paducah Tilghman.  Perry only allowed a single Blue Tornado baserunner over the first three frames, but a hit by pitch and a Lyon County error allowed Tilghman to tie the game in the fourth.

Another error in the fifth allowed Paducah Tilghman to take the lead for good, and the Blue Tornado tacked on the final run on Mia Bobbitt’s RBI double in the bottom of the sixth.

Bobbitt earned the win in the circle to help Paducah Tilghman improve to 3-1, scattering four hits with a walk and a strikeout while also leading the way with two hits.

Perry took the loss after surrendering two earned runs on three hits with a walk and three strikeouts.

The Lady Lyons now stand at 2-2 with a trip to Webster County scheduled for Monday.
